I celebrated another year on this planet earlier this week, always glad when I am continuing to count days gone by! Some fun stuff in the works for tonight.

Red/Black currant, plum skin, Kirsch, moist soil and mineral flavor traits.

A very contemporary, young Bdx 2nd wine - superb showing. Big extraction, sweet and textured. Will evolve to a better better place with time. Thanks @Mo Salem for bringing this to the devil’s den.

Montrose is one of the most famous Chateaux in the region, and one of the fifteen Second Growths in the original Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855. Montrose’s second wine, La Dame de Montrose, is consistently excellent value. The 2014 La Dame de Montrose presents a distinctly savory profile. Sweet red cherries, flowers, orange peel, herbs and white pepper give the 2014 much of its aromatic lift. Beautifully layered to match its gracious, understated personality, the 2014 impresses with its striking balance and laid-back sense of power. All the elements meld together in a wine of total grace. This is a very sexy second wine from Montrose. (Antonio Galloni, Vinous, Feb 2017)

Another wine of interest to me in the Bordeaux masterclass although it looks nothing like the critics’ notes online. Where’s all the floral and mineralic notes? Perhaps shut down at this stage? The nose itself was still interesting though - fruit-dense with lots of irony elements (rust, meat). Sweet fruited, spicy, and concentrated on the palate, but still energetic courtesy of a little more obvious acidity here. Tannins were dusty, fine, and directional. Blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 45% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot.

Thursday night and I have pulled the trigger on the 2014 La Dame de Montrose Staint-Estèph. 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Petit Verdot. I've been wanting to try this for awhile and today I pulled the trigger on it and I am sooooo glad I did. What a beautiful 2nd wine from Château Montrose which hear taken me back to the 1st Bordeaux I ever tasted and set me on my wine journey.

The nose has notes of black cherry, strawberry, plum, black currant, herbal notes, beautiful purple florals, tar, sweet licorice, oak and graphite.

On the palate is dense dark fruit, black cherry, raspberry, blueberry, green bell pepper, black currants and good minerality.

This wine is medium.to full bodied with medium + acidity leaning more to the + side and medium + grippy tannins that coat the whole mouth and leads you right into a long strong enjoyable finish. I'm starting my Memorial Day weekend off right and want you all to have a wonderful holiday weekend. PLEASE be SAFE! Nostrovia! 🍷🍷🍷🍷

PnP. Dark red/purple color. Young, deep wine. I thought it actually smelled a bit like the ‘66 Pichon Baron somehow. Earthy with cedar. Fruit was reserved. More alcohol than I was expecting. Needs 5+yrs.

Classic elegance. Good vintage from a second growth that rivals any firsts.
