Lillian Winery
California Syrah

Sunday decanted. Maggie Harrison’s 2013 Lillian Syrah. Maggie was assistant winemaker to Manfred Krankl of Sine Qua Non for eight years before moving to Oregon to take over at Antica Terra. Lillian represents Maggie’s personal project and reflects everything that she learned during her time at Sine Qua Non. Fascinated by the “cannot unsee” factor of this wine... like those pictures that show two different things in one image... this is a Syrah that if given the right perspective will morph into a Cabernet.

Antica Terra and Lillian wine event
This was fantastic. I think this was my very favorite from the Lillian lineup.. Colder vintage and more minerality.

This is a big wine, but not when paired correctly with food. Last night it sang with a lamb stew. Tonight in revisiting it solo I find it delicious and appropriately structured/tannic for its age. On the palate, it feels kind of like Bandol. Interested to see where it is on day 3!

Wow, here's a great example of the fact that good west coast syrah is like f*****g. Iz juicy, meaty n sweet. While it might get too much (I'm old) it keeps beeing interesting.
