Château Montrose
Saint-Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend
St. Estèphe, Médoc, Bordeaux, France
Just a glass of this and I didn’t think much of it. Seems a little simple, but it may well have been palate fatigue since it was one of the last reds popped during the night. Ripe and smooth, with wonted typicity in a way, but without any real personality. Expected more old-school Bordeaux elegance (especially at a very agreeable 12.5% abv), and from Montrose (especially after an unexpectedly impressive 11’ I had not too long before).

Annual boys trip away. This time to Cairns. Brief notes. Possibly the WOTN. Just medium weight. With aromas of antique shop chest of drawers, old books. Wonderful persistence of flavour. Won’t get better but a very good showing from a lesser year.

Palate is pretty closed. Nose shows a youthful pomace nose. Has years to go
