2014 vintage. A classic Pauillac from a cooler vintage. Drinking well already.

Monthly WTF guys blind tasting group. This month was our annual, and famed, Left Bank vs Right Bank theme. All wines served blind as usual. Started off with a Rosé and a champagne. Great night.

This was one of my favorites of the night. One of the best young Bordeaux’s I’ve tasted. Ripe and modern nose (fruit forward) with smoked meat and baked blackberry pie. The palate revealed cocoa/dark chocolate, baking spices and a hint of blue fruit wrapped by black fruit. Big. Will obviously get better, but was shocked how good this was now. I called this ‘12-14 Left Bank.

Of all the 14's so far, this is singing to me the best. Ripe and round juicy, leaner blackberries, dark cherries, cherries, strawberries, blackberry cola, steeped tea, soft fine minerals, roses, perfect acidity and sexy finish.

Very dark rubi robe, blackcurrant, tobacco and top soil notes followed by a fresh, balanced and complex mid palate. Great Pauillac and no rush.

Half bottle. $45.48 @ Total Wine. rich, full bodied, spicy, concentrated and elegant Bordeaux wine. balance between power and refinement. 2014 was ready to drink, not very tannic! Second growth. Def get this again. Les Tourelles de Longueville is their second wine if I can ever find to try.

Strong but no burn opens up beautifully, notes of chicane and cigar and fruit

Deep garnet in color. At first, black fruit and roasted coffee dominated the nose, but then it opened up into a surprising scent of beautiful spring flowers, spice box and earth after a couple hours of exposure to air. Tannin was fine, but it did have a nice gripping feel to it that built on after the sip. From an assemblage of 80% Can Sauv and 20% Merlot. This Pichon Baron 2014 has power and concentration without it being overly heavy on the palate. Already pleasant to drink now, but will probably be fun to drink given another 3-5 years in the cellar.

Very young, but will be amazing in 10-15 years. Was really tight and closed but opened up very nicely after about 30 minutes in glass. Cassis, a little raspberry and tobacco
