Cailloux Vineyard Syrah

Opened up with time and should age well and drink great in a few years.

Started with roasted meat, then as it opened, we got back cherry, currant, boysenberry. Dusty crushed gravel, and definite tobacco leaf. A bit of menthol and orange.

Pure silk, olives and funk.

2012 Vintage. 14.2% Alcohol. Tons of Juniper Berries on the nose and taste. This is not my preferred flavor profile. Don’t understand the hoopla. Glad to have opted out, wish I had done so earlier. Washington’s SQN? No way.

2012 Vintage. Badly corked. Started out smelling like pine needles and turned to sour sweat socks in the decanter. Winery direct and total bummer.

Intriguing. Nutty on the nose. Still good but the end is nigh. Doesn’t taste like it would benefit from more ageing

Exceptionally young, this was an experimental opening. Probably the dirtiest wine I’ve ever had (and first cayuse fwiw). So stinky, to rival the most aggressive stinky cheeses. I loved it. Anxiously awaiting entry to the list.

Mr Baron knows how to make a wine

Enjoyable, but surprisingly tastes like a high alcohol CA pinot (like Jonata).

This wine was delightful. We paired with mushroom risotto and filet.
