Château Gruaud Larose
Saint-Julien Red Bordeaux Blend
A really nice bottle. Nice mix of ripe deep fruit and savory notes. A touch of gravel/dust, nicely softened tannins and balanced floral elements. Lingering lifted finish. Power and elegance in each sip, and improved the second night.

May 2nd, 2020A great bottle, and very interesting. Darker purple and blue tones in the glass. Nose is complex with leather, dark fruits, pepper, eucalyptus. Palate mirrors the nose with added flavors of menthol, chocolate, and tobacco. Finish is very long. Still feels young, and while interesting now, is big enough to warrant plenty of time.

Apr 16th, 2017Blackberry, fig, graphite, tar. Still fairly tannic and should go a while.

Dec 11th, 2016A superb wine, I love how GL always is so distinctive. If is of course Bordeaux, but always has particular secondary characteristics that set itself apart from most of its bretheren. This was all savory spice and herbs, with perfume like fruit, and plenty of energy from this great vintage. One of the most interesting at #burdigalanyc

Mar 18th, 2015This bottle was a generous contribution from @Sean Fernandez in our old and rare department and was a real contender for wine of the night. It is composed of about 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petite Verdot. The Gruaud was the earthiest, most savory bottle of the whole tasting, and had a little bit of bret that in no way detracted from my appreciation of the wine. It had dark fruit and leather flavors and one of the best supple, medium bodied textures of the whole evening. It was seamless and beautiful wine that drank great now with balance for the ages.

Feb 26th, 2015Steak & claret Friday with my dad in town! This bottle was so rich, exotic & enigmatic that Cinnamon & I were both convinced that it had to be from a different era in Bordeaux- we both guessed 1990! Fabulous dark Cabernet fruit and earthy intrigue... Long and complete!
