Popped and poured; no formal notes. The 2010 “La Gravette de Certan” pours a deep ruby, almost purple color with some fine sediment. Gorgeous aromas of ripe brambles, plums, purple flowers, cocoa, graphite minerals and baking spices. That palate is treated to a luxurious silken blanket of flavor with ample fruit that is deftly balanced by minerals, earth and a gentle kiss of spices. The structure, which is wonderfully integrated, props everything up. The finish is long and effortlessly charming. This is classic Pomerol. Even though this is the second wine of VCC, it’s treated like (and drinks like) it’s one of the great wines of the appellation. Everyone who shared this bottle tonight was completely smitten. Drinking so well now and should continue to do so for at least another 5-10 years…but no reason to wait.

2010...even with their second wine, the balance is awesome, it's a full and rich with killer aromatics. Silky, earthy and long...

2010 was a banner year for Bordeaux (especially for Certan) so this is hardly a value play at a restaurant that knows the market, but this is a big, punchy wine deserving of its hype. Hot finish at opening that settled beautifully an hour later. Paired diversely with ricotta dumplings, roast chicken, flatiron steak. This was a special one.
