Clos Saint Jean
Deus Ex Machina Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend

Really opened up after an hour. Completely different wine. Wow.

Served blind with Saxum 2005 and this won the round by a touch. Earthy and complex. Fruit had diminished since I last had it. But secondary characteristics are moving in that I really like.

Advanced - some oxidation , raisin , distinct bricking , seamless palate , medium mouthfeel of date paste , heavy reduction more and more. Dark and rustic — if it wasn’t moving so advanced — it’s nicely pleasurable— very seamless texture and mouthfeel

Definitely a more modern, somewhat extracted, 14.5% wine...but still pretty enjoyable with some corned beef for St Patty’s day. Slight bricking. Aromatic with pruney dark red fruit. Nice finish.

This is why I drink CdP. My only bottle of this vintage, unfortunate because it still has time (easy 5-7) years though it's in a good place now. A mouthful of rich but not sweet fruit, smooth resolved tannins and the perfect balance of acid. 60 second finish. Too bad these are so expensive.
