I have to admit, Mount Monster was a pretty good pick for Halloween 🧟‍♂️ last night. Mr @datkins5066 didn’t even think of the funny coincidence when he pulled it out of his cellar to take it to a BYO Indian restaurant in Melbourne last night 👻
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
This 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon comes from the Limestone Coast in South Australia. Here is what the back label told me:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
‘Mount Monster is surrounded by myth, mystery and mineral rich soils; fertile and free draining, perfect for making wine and musing about our local monsters; the Bunyips! At Mount Monster we are as independent as we are remote.”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I had to Google ‘Bunyips’ and for those like me, they’re “The bunyip is a large mythical creature from Australian Aboriginal mythology, said to lurk in swamps, billabongs, creeks, riverbeds, and waterholes. The origin of the word bunyip has been traced to the Wemba-Wemba or Wergaia language of Aboriginal people of South-Eastern Australia.” According to Wikipedia.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
But enough about the ghouls, lets dive into the wine. I found this 10 year old Cab a deep bricky red burgundy colour on the eye 👁. Mellow aromas of black plummy fruits with a hint of herbs, maybe even fresh mint. In the mouth it’s much like the nose, soft yet full of flavour, black fruits and black jellybeans. Enjoyable! Thanks for sharing Dave ☺️
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
All opinions are based on my own taste buds. Wine is subjective & always evolving, so make sure you drink what you enjoy!

Basic fruity Cabernet. Good for drinking with a sharp cheese or even by itself.

Just ok. Fruity more like Shiraz. I was hoping for bolder.
