3 people found it helpfulOct 9th, 2016I love the structure of this wine. The Pape Star 2012 has little tannin and a great balance of fruit and acid. Listed as 52% Grenache, and I always get flat cola out of Grenache, and this wine meets my expectations. More like Dr Pepper. Oddly, rather than grilled meat, I crve creamy chocolate with this wine. Also has 20 Mourvedre, 18 Syrah, & 7 Cinsault. Picture a CDP with less spice.

A nice dark cherry red color with a wide brim. The nose opens up with some nice spice and green earth. Plenty of funk and fun on display here. Dense moss and forest woodland screams before the bright red fruits show up to play. The floral aromatics really set this one off.
45/30/25 of Grenache, Mourvèdre, and Syrah, this is a Central Coast take on Chateauneuf du Pape and baby, it works. It’s a gentle onslaught of goodness. Mounds and mounds of bright, fresh fruits come in waves. Wild strawberry, red cherry, and raspberry. A hint of dark chocolate with menthol and more greenery. It seems like people don’t know how good these are and that’s a crying shame. Beautiful wine and so hard to beat.

I am so in love with this winery right now. This is a beautiful Rhone style blend that is like candy on the palate. Strawberries and cola with perfect integrated tannins. Delicious!

It offers similar style and value to wines from Southern Rhône. It has slightly less earthiness you generally expect of wine of this style. The Pope should definitely consider moving the papacy to Central California, at least for 5-10 years :-)

Crisp and savory with pine nut encrusted chicken and herb rice. Nice floral and fruit accents. Three bottles during the meal. Kudos Seth Kunin!
