Yantai Changyu

Changyu

Riesling Blend

An excellent Riesling! If you were suspicious about NZ whites 20 years ago, well, life is a journey, full of discoveries, and China is a rather big country. hell, good food demands great wines. The rest is eurocentism and, worse, Porterism for wines. We had a blast! This Riesling (not a blend) is fresh, fruity, bright, balanced, fun, v drinkable w/o any undesirable aftertastes and leaving your head okay the morning after. A friend brought it from London, a 2017 harvest, and boy, were we suspicious? Then again: Coming from a 19th vineyard - how would they not know their thing? It‘s us not knowing their wines! — 6 years ago

Chateau Changyu Moser XV

Italian Ningxia Riesling 2015

From Berry Bros & Rudd - the cheaper £8 version of the other Chinese wine, same producer. Wasn't nice to stary with, it was like chewing on the actual barrell. Definitely needs BBQd food or charred food and way more breathing than I thought, around 3 hours, then it was quite nice! — 7 years ago

Changyu

Golden Icewine Valley Vidal 2009

My first Chinese wine! Very interesting. youthful and lean as an 09 but developing brotryis flavours. Very long earthy & soil finish. Couldn't peg it.... — 8 years ago

Dragon Boat Manor

Libourne Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

Dragon Boat Manor. Pretty common wine found in Chinese wine shops. Inexpensive with a very nice bottle. Could easily fool someone into thinking this is a fine French wine while the price is about 40 RMB.

Good ruby color and not a strong scent from the bottle but a strong red cherry scent from the glass. Fruity, sweet cherry taste with a hint of orange and a short finish.

All and all not too bad. I've had this wine a few times and usually prefer it to the Changyu or Great Wall. But a little too sweet for a red wine.
