Flagship wine of Villa Oeira, a new estate founded by the municipality of Carcavelos to recover the historic fortified wines of this village in the outskirts of Lisbon (most vineyards have been lost to housing developments). Blend of Arinto, Galego Dourado e Ratinho from vineyards in the old estate of the Marquis de Pombal. Aged in oak for an average of 15 years. Intense nose with aromas of burnt sugar, caramel and raisins. Smooth, balanced sweetness, saline, long finish — 3 years ago
I do not usually drink fortified wine, but this Carcavelos was exceptional. It tastes like a sweet Madeira but has an extra fruitiness that I appreciated. A great buy if you are looking for a different sweet wine. — 3 years ago
