Perus Wine

Lyla Napa Valley Proprietary Red 2022

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Inky in color with a very short reddish rim.

Fruity nose and medium in body with medium acidity.

Dry and fruit forward on the palate with nice complexity.

Showing blackberries, black currants, plums, cooked cherries, spices, vanilla, cedar, licorice, cola, chocolates, herbs, earth, light tobacco leaf and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy cherries.

This is a delicious Merlot based Bordeaux blend from Napa Valley. Rich and fruit forward. Soft and smooth.

Still very young, and needs a few years in the bottle to mature properly, although very approachable right now.

A delicious wine that will continue to age nicely in the next 10 to 15 years.

Needs 3 hours in the decanter to open up properly, which I didn't have, as it was finished too quickly.

Very elegant, and very enjoyable by itself as a sipping wine. Will also pair very nicely with a big piece of steak or Barbecue meats.

A blend of 60% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. A small production of only 8 barrels.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Lyla Sugarloaf Mountain Merlot 2019

It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here is a gorgeous Merlot.

Inky in color with a short purple rim.

Full bodied and bold with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate and very fruity with blackberries, black currants, cooked cherries, cedar, vanilla, spices, espresso, chocolates, sweet tobacco and black pepper.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and cherries.

This is a delicious Merlot. Easy drinking and fruit-forward. In your face kind of wine at this point. Extracted and rich.

Delicious right out of the bottle, but still young and needs many years to mature properly. Already yummy, though.

Showing very nice complexity already, which is very nice to see.

Will be nice to revisit it in 5 years.

Paired wonderfully with BBQ Meats.

100% Sugarloaf Merlot grapes. A small production of only 200 cases.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

93 points.

Janeen Proprietary Red Blend 2018

It is time for my #FridayCabernetfix. Here is a gorgeous Cabernet Sauvignon.

Deep Inky in color with a short reddish rim.

Strong nose of blackberries, blueberries, figs, cooked cherries, cedar, leather, chocolates, tobacco leaf, licorice, vanilla, light cola, fresh herbs, coffee, Mediterranean spices and black pepper.

Full bodied, smooth and elegant, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry and very fruity on the palate with blackberries, black currants, stewed cherries, figs, cedar, cola, earth, light vegetables, vanilla, coffee, licorice, chocolates, light alcohol, tobacco leaf, herbs and peppercorn.

Long finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon from the house of Russell Bevan. Rich and extracted. A big wine that shows restraint and elegance.

Still very young, and needs time to open up properly (2 hours), but very tasty right out of the bottle too. As it opens up, it calms down a bit, and earth notes come in to play.

Elegant and opulent. fruit forward and tasty, with good potential to become a 95+ point wine.

This 4 year old is already delicious, and will continue to age nicely in the next 15 years.

I had the 2016 this year, and it shows good consistency. Will be nice to revisit it again in 5 years.

Good by itself as a sipping wine, and will pair nicely with a big piece of steak.

A blend of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon and 14% merlot. A small production of only 300 cases.

14.9% alcohol by volume.

94 points.
