Quite an ironic release. Michael has among the best and most iconic Viognier in the state for over a decade… 2022 was a fantastic vintage and I suspect he used this vintage to go off script. But instead of rich luxurious extraction, this is particularly lean and mineral driven. Filled with an uncharacteristic amount of lemon oil, and absent is the abundance of apricot & oak. Perhaps a decent food, pairing wine, but lacking in mid Atlantic Viognier qualities. — 5 months ago
Lovely and bright! Well balanced. — 3 years ago
Among the Top 5 annually BEST CF’s in the old dominion. Rich but not over bearing or over-extracted. Fresh and energetic acid carry thru to the mid-palate, while enough wood tannin cleans up for the long red fruited jet stream. Ready for any culinary challenge, yet so sophisticated it can be sipped with marvel! — 3 years ago
Quite interesting. My only experience with Petit Manseng from Virginia had been with much sweeter ones. Another surprise was the golden color not past its peak. 2018 vintage drunk June 20 25, $30. — 4 months ago
Michael Shaps produced All-Star… This had next level composition and at 10 years old tasted/felt like Glen Manor or RdV. Class!!! 50% Merlot, 42% PV, 8%.Tannat — 5 months ago
Spectacular at 15.5 years from harvest. Acid and tannin structure are in fabulous balance. Black cherry and dark raspberry dance with thyme and sweet anise. easily one of the finest Virginia single varietals I’ve ever had! — 2 years ago

Fantastic at eight years old! Vibrant dark/red fruit… a touch of thyme and a pinch of rosemary. Michael Shaps built this and you can tell. Fantastic attack (cherry sweetness) and the mid palate is just a tango of balance (slightly stewed fruit and herbs)…
Medium finish but delightful in staying inside the boundaries for what this wine is meant to do — a month ago
