2007 Mauro VS Vino de la Terra Tempranillo. Dinner at Ch Ven w J&L B and J&J D. Huge wine with tons of dark fruit- plum, blackberry- and even chocolate and leather. Really enjoyed. We all would have guessed it was a Cal Cab had we not known. — 10 years ago

Monteverro

Terra di Monteverro Toscana Red Blend 2014

July 7, 2021. Dinner w/KK 😁 Jack D, and J2. Celebrating KK return to CoMO, albeit just a visit. She brought pizza, I pulled out this wine. Perfect w/pizza and a lovely super Tuscan from Maremma. 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Slightly different than the 2012 vintage I drank and rated in March. This is just as yummy, though less aged so more fruit (dark cherry) and less earth and leather. Still wonderful. Drank both bottles I had. Need more! — 5 years ago

Altavins Viticoltors

Terra Alta Domus Pensi 2013

Here I am in Zion National Park. While my pizza was being made in a wood-fired brick oven, I'm listening to a kitchen staff member playing a 12 string Fender acoustic guitar IN THE KITCHEN while sipping an Alta Vins. Domus Pensi 2013. Delicious blend. Paired with a roasted vegetable pizza.....sublime. No one expect d this. Buy this wine. Please. You'll love it. — 9 years ago

Hacienda Terra d'Uro

Finca La Rana Toro Tempranillo

Deep and dark ruby garnet. Abundant nose of black cherry and pipe tobacco. Echoed on the palate with a stony mid-palate and a cigar box finish. Velvety tannins coat the mouth from entry to the medium long finish. Toro is probably best known (to those who know it) through really high-end wines that cost more and are less well-known than their fellow Tempranillo-based brothers from Rioja and Ribera del Duero. Darker and fuller than either, Toro at more moderate price points (like this one) let the wineaux experience Spain (and Tempranillo) at a higher level without breaking the proverbial bank. A great alternative to Cabernet Sauvignon (New or Old World) that’s ready for steaks, roasts, root vegetables, hearty casseroles, or any other “deep red” meal. Drink now through 2025. — 7 years ago
