Franciscan

Napa County Cabernet Sauvignon 2006

Enjoyed this 2016 vintage with friends and the authentic Sicilian food my wife prepared. Well balanced but not especially complex or interesting. However, this made it a good choice for our diverse group of guests. And more importantly, it was an excellent complement to the traditional Italian food by neither overwhelming or being overwhelmed. — 6 years ago

Reserve Napa Valley Merlot 2013

Here we have a very well-executed Napa Merlot. It is big and smooth drinking, with bright acidity and nice cherry, currant, and blackberry flavors. — 7 years ago

Cuvée Sauvage Napa Valley Chardonnay 2014

This has the buttery and vanilla flavors I expected, but not over the top. Nice baked apple fruit, and a tangy acidity were good. This worked well with a green curry seafood dish. — 7 years ago

Corsair

Quinoa Whiskey

This is, to Corsair’s knowledge, the first ever whiskey derived from quinoa – although a handful of additional distillers have followed suit. In actuality, it tastes like, well, quinoa – capturing the grain’s earthy flavors and a certain grassy dryness, like some pastoral windblown field. Not surprising to this San Franciscan, the quinoa whiskey reportedly sells well in California. — 7 years ago
