Disappointing. This is not the beer I fell in love with so many years ago. There is only a hint of the smooth but robust roasted malt Irish Stout that made it the benchmark for all other Stouts. This version was brewed to 5.6% ABV instead of the traditional 4.8%. It was sweeter, diluted with excess water, and had recognizable American IPA additions. Frankly it was more suited to having a "flavored malt beverage" label than an Irish Stout. I understand the business need to stay relevant with changing drinking habits in a crowded craft beer environment, but give it a new name and label. Think New Coke. — 8 years ago

Enjoyed this 2016 vintage with friends and the authentic Sicilian food my wife prepared. Well balanced but not especially complex or interesting. However, this made it a good choice for our diverse group of guests. And more importantly, it was an excellent complement to the traditional Italian food by neither overwhelming or being overwhelmed. — 8 years ago
