Alto Rouge Superior Estate Red Blend 1980

1980 vintage. One of the last vintages of Piet du Toit who retired in 1983. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz with some Merlot and Petit Verdot. Showing very well at 43 years old, the first nice surprise of the new year. Still a solid colour. Improves even with air. Attractive nose with dried fruit, coffee and spices. Velvety mouthfeel, with complexity and good peppery length. Abv. 12% . — a year ago
