Domaine Des Granges

Château des Granges D'Or

Médoc Red Bordeaux Blend 2017

It is time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Let's bring Merlot back!

Dark ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Nice nose of blue and black fruits with light wood, spices, licorice, light earth, vegetables, herbs, tobacco leaf and dark coffee.

Full-bodied with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with black currants, plums, cherries, light oak, spices, chocolates, licorice, coffee, tobacco leaf, earth and black pepper.

Nice length on the finish with fine grained tannins, raspberries and peppercorn.

This 7 year old Merlot from Bordeaux is peaking now, and will continue to drink nicely in the next few years. Complex and interesting.

I had this vintage 3 years ago, and it hasn't changed much, except that the nose has become noticeably prettier.

Needs a couple of hours to open up properly so be patient.

Good by itself and better with food. I paired it with grilled picanha.

A blend of 71% Merlot, 27% Cabernet Sauvignon and 2% Cabernet Franc.

13.5% alcohol by volume.

90 points.

$25.

White Burgundy. More butter than oak but not offensive. It’s a winter white for Adria and me.

Grange Bin 95 Shiraz 1991

95% Shiraz, 5% Cabernet. Considered to be one of the top 5 Granges in the 50 years between 1951 and 2001. I’ve always rated the 91 slightly higher than the 1990 which put Grange on the map in the USA when Wine Spectator made it their Wine of the Year and front page of their magazine. Nicely mature at 32 years with at least another decade or two in front of it. Black fruits of berry and cherry with mocha and dark chocolate. An absolutely smashing opulent wine which is made to go with Roast Lamb. Next one in 5 to 10 years. — a year ago

Also drinking a wine like this is cause for celebration at the likely lifting of punitive tariffs on Australian wine imposed by China a few years ago.

Château La Grange

Saint Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2015

2015 vintage. Big. Full. Needs time. Lots of time. If drinking now, give it at least a two hour decant pre-consumption. Medium bodied with plenty of grip. Plenty of cherries, oak, plum with a splash of woodlands air and an infinitesimal schwing of Hawaiian Punch. Maan, these La Granges generally need two decades to resolve/settle down/marry/divorce. — 3 years ago
