Aged five years and absolutely sensual. Mouth feel was like a cashmere sweater :) apricots and spring flowers! Thx Jim — 3 years ago
This evaluation and grade are relative to EAST coast 100% Merlot builds (for which there are MANY). In the series dubbed Outliner, each vintage is a chapter in the book of single varietal expression from the estate in Delaplane. This build takes on the RightBank MINDSET and delivers a sound argument. I call this a cube profile: equally wide and long as high. The acid is elegantly woven into the core structure and tannins and soft as velvety. They have succeeded in not copying a classic middle Lantic red fruit profile, rather this is opulent while be long restrained and modest. Strong enough to go against beef at the steakhouse, yet not a heavyweight puncher. 2 bottle remain in the cellar. The build quality is high, like a H&K 9mm! — 4 years ago
Wonderfully delicious four variety state blend from the foothills of the Blue Ridge. Exquisite viticulture - careful treatment in the wine room. Vibrant and energetic. Elegant and pure class. Red fruits and structure. — 3 days ago
Class! A 6.5yr old 375ml micro lot barrel from the esteemed vineyard near Winchester. Balanced elements of oak and cran-raspberry reduction. Just to touch a Pierazines leading to some green pepper & faint tar notes on the nose and finished palate. Nevertheless, elegant. — 3 years ago
Cab Franc-dominant blend, smoky and sweet. Soft tannins and berry notes. Quite lovely — 4 years ago
2012 was a classic and tight vintage in Virginia… This blend does feature a lead of cab sauv at 38% with CF AT 31% - Merlot singing background at 25% — 7 months ago
Wow! 10yrs of age and elegance has happened! — 3 years ago
Peaches, slate, flowers, and honey. Lively. I think some of the negative reviews are due to drinking this too old. — 3 years ago
A tour-de-force? Maybe...the attack is wide (oak driven) yet friction-free (polished). At 4.5yrs old, this has peaked nicely as integrating components are in harmony. Poached Pear leads to delightful yellow peach kiss at the finish. Beautiful VA Chardonnay! — 5 years ago

Wow -15 years of aging and this beauty has concentration that would make Washington State growers proud!! while it may be a couple years past its peak, there was still ample acidity to fight through the food we paired it with. But I’ve got to say, this is the first time a Virginia. Syrah has ever tasted like it’s from Washington State. Hats off to you, Jim Dolphin ;) — 7 days ago
