Rich, fruity ox blood. Delectable! We had it at that little restaurant next to Bohemia in Stellenbosch. — 12 years ago
Goodness me, a truly breathtaking wine is the 2019 Taaibosch Crescendo, only the second vintage of this estate resurrected from the former Cordoba winery, a South African legend in itself. Is Taaibosch destined for similar renown?
On opening, this wine is hugely effusive! Just the sort of wine you want to sniff for hours on end…there are wonderfully fresh aromas of black fruit, graphite, pencil shavings, as well as tomato vine and menthol. After an hour’s decant, the fruit begins to prevail, inky and saturated, with some lifted notes of lavender and vanilla. It’s already a profoundly complex wine, and that’s before taking a sip. I’ve just endured my way through dry January - who knew I could be doing this every night?
The wine is drop-dead gorgeous in the mouth, somehow exceeding expectations, fanning out like a peacock’s tail across the palate with every flavour delineated in precise fashion. Precision is a hallmark of this serious, complex wine which is a blend of 65% Cabernet Franc, 26% Merlot and 9% Cab. Sauvignon from Stellenbosch. A triumph. 96+ — a year ago

Had this with Tori and Vampi in Cordoba. Was full bodied and absolutely delicious! — 10 years ago
Bought in Villa Vini Teca in Barcelona. Numbered 1347 of 7010 bottles made. Good value at 22e. Opened to taste. Nose of hay and stone fruits and white flowers. Blast of acids and minerals alive with tension on palate carrying through to long finish. All Xarel.lo, uncertified organic, nice one! Will share with SHs. Left in fridge with cork but next day the acids were more prominent. Poured reminder plastic water bottle Cali style and on third day was mostly acidic. Too much for Ho. BD dinner at buffet in Cordoba. Too bad. Down one to 9 — 2 years ago
A Santa Barbara County Proprietary Red Wine. Unfiltered and unfined. Entirely constructed of Estrella-clone Syrah from two ends of the Santa Rita Hills and a sprinkling of Viognier. Native-yeast fermented with 40% whole cluster inclusion and raised in large neutral barrels for 26-months. Matthias’ expression of great Syrah from a great Syrah growing region, cool coastal vineyards north of Santa Barbara. Recommended to a little above cellar temperature.
NOSE
Young boysenberries. Steeping Darjeeling tea. A hint of barbecue smoke drifts by.
COLOR/MOUTHFEEL
The color of a deep burgundy Chrysler Cordoba. Big, velvety mouthfeel, but not Corinthian leather.
TASTE/FINISH
Taste: Black cherries, just before 100% ripe. A touch of blueberry pie, but savory, not sweet. Finish: A finish of black pepper with a touch of cocoa nib at the last few touches of finish. Juicy, bustling tannins right to the point where you think they’re a touch too bold, but then the finish reaches over and says “I believe you were mistaken”.
