Château Vignolle Marbuzet

Château Haut-Marbuzet

St. Estèphe Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

The quintessential St Estephe - savoury black fruit, earthy, slightly leathery/smoky. Firm yet juicy tannins, fresh acidity, v. nice depth & length. Lacks maybe some elegance but makes it up with authenticity. Not so much for sipping, and yet a perfect food wine. — 3 months ago

375ml. Was great! Not as good as the Haut Marbuzet even though it was 30% more. Classic Bordeaux. Refined and lovely texture. See previous note on the ‘09. — 3 months ago

Château de Marbuzet

St. Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot 1989

Birth year bottle for my wife’s 30th. Didn’t really know if this was gonna hold up, but it was very good. Tannins have mostly resolved—lots of tobacco and earth, but still a good amount of spicy fruit and acid still present. In an excellent drinking window. — 5 years ago

Château Ducru-Beaucaillou

Le Petit Caillou St. Julien Red Bordeaux Blend 2010

Very profound nose which reminded me of a couple of bottles I had of clos du marquis. I said saint Julien but wasn’t sure. Blackcurrant, coffee, meat, tea... different layers. I was pretty sure at that point that it was a grand cru classé... the palate is not that wide and powerful. I thought then grand cru classé but in a small recent year. 2011 or 2013. The palate was evolving around an acid backbone with fine tannins and a lovely yet discreet fruit. Moderately long finish with fruit, coffee again and a pinch of salt. I finally went for haut marbuzet 2011. I was far away from it! Always trust a first impression. Superb nose, palate a bit under delivering when the nose raises such expectations. Overall lovely and well done. — 6 years ago

Château German Marbuzet

St. Estèphe Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2010

Phenomenal Bordeaux. Great depth of evolving layers of currant, cassis, dark cherry and ..oh so well integrated tannins. Smooth and extremely well balanced. Bernard told us that St Estephe is the feminine side of Pauillac while Saint Julien is the masculine side. This wine supports that notion. Paired extremely well with bbq copper river salmon from Alaska. — 5 years ago
