Château Hosanna

Château Hosanna

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2000

A rich ruby red. Plummy dusty notes. A slight barnyard manure note. Pipe Tobacco. Medium plus bodied palate. Smooth supple fine tannins. Part of the Moueix stable. Someone wrote “a feminine counterpoint to Petrus”. Haven’t had enough of either Cuvée to verify that. A wonderful expression of right bank Merlot from a great vintage. 70% Merlot 30% Cabernet Franc. Only 1500 cases made. — 4 months ago

Despite the fill level, which was down into the shoulder, this was drinking exceptionally well. Tannins resolved, but plenty of fruit remaining to contrast with the many earthy components. Has an old Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant sticker on the back. He hasn't steered me wrong yet. Now known as Chateau Hosanna. — 8 years ago

Château La Fleur-Pétrus

Pomerol Red Bordeaux Blend 2019

The 2019 La Fleur-Pétrus is pure and total seduction. Trotanoy and perhaps also Hosanna have traditionally been viewed as more exclusive Pomerols in the Moueix portfolio. The more time passes, the less I share that view. Sure, La Fleur-Pétrus does not have the mystique associated from a small single vineyard - as many Pomerols do - and yet there is no denying the elegance and class here. Bright red fleshed fruit, blood orange and exotic spice race across the palate, framed by silky, plush tannins that wrap it all together. La Fleur-Pétrus is fabulous. That's all there is to it. Dominus Estate

Dominus Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Blend 2014

One the nose; floral, sweet fruits of; blackberries, dark cherries, plum, black plum, black raspberries & raspberries. Dry, dark soils and dry & fresh red florals. The body is medium. Tannins are dusty, soft and smooth. Black tea, dry stones, crushed dry rocks, cedar wood shavings, dry stems, touch of vanilla, old, dry leather and blue fruits shine as you sip it. This is another tight bottle. It also needs 15 years before it starts to fully reveal itself. The structure, length, balance and acidity are certainly all there for a nicely improved vine in 15 plus years. Photo tour of the estate, Dominus vines, barrel room and of course, the legendary Christian Moueix. He also makes Petrus & Hosanna in Bordeaux. I've been fortunate to have dinner twice with Christian. He is an incredibly nice person and very humble man considering his credentials. First vintage of Dominus 1983. George Yount, for whom Yountville is named, planted some of the first vines on the estate in 1828. — 7 years ago
