Wellington wines never disappoint. This was especially nice. — 5 years ago
New Years Eve at The Farm Restaurant, Carneros Resort and Spa. Opened some of my favorite wines: Marcassin Chardonnay, 2012 with oysters and caviar and salmon dish. Structure of wine is layered with apricot-orange, floral blossoms, lemon, cedar and vanilla. The Next of Kyn, 2013 Syrah blend paired nicely with the Wellington beef. Covers the pallet with dark blackberry, licorice and chocolate changing in taste as it opened up. Tannins still present but not over powering. Both wines deserve a 9.5 rating with plenty of age left on them. — 7 years ago
Very nice wine! Beautiful all around. Smooth to start and a nice finish. Easy going. Tastes of black berries and raisins. So so good. Paired very well with beef Wellington. — 7 years ago
This was the third of 4 reds we had for our main course last night. A Wine without a fuss from the Wine Society bought in 2015. Another dinner guest often buys this in restaurants and loves it, as do I; in fact I like most Pomerol wines Good, medium tannins, very fruity excellent with beef wellington 😁 — 9 years ago
Sadly, our supply of these marvelous Wellington wines is dwindling. No one makes nicer Syrah. — 8 months ago
Packed with a number of ‘09 Wellington wines, so best guess is around that same time for the NV Duke. In any case, it held up beautifully. — 3 years ago
Peter sure did make wonderful wines of all kinds. His Zins are exceptional. And they age beautifully. — 3 years ago
VOS (very old Sherry), 100% Palominofrom the estate’s vineyards in Pago de Miraflores in Sanlúcar (just 3km. from the Atlantic Ocean) and Balbaína in El Puerto de Santa María, also exposed to the Poniente winds from the Atlantic. Due to this Atlantic influence, wines from these Pagos tend to be lighter, more delicate than those further inland, and this is a great example. Delicate, elegant nose with aromas of orange peel, raisins and a hint of spices. Slightly salty (clealy Sanlúcar). Persistent, hazelnuts — 5 years ago
Very smooth, light, perfect after yoga! — 7 years ago
In the St. Tropez bay on Crystal Serenity enjoying this lovely wine with Beef Wellington. Opened the bottle last night with prime rib and saved half the bottle for tonight. Better tonight than last night by a degree. — 7 years ago
@Delectable Wine this is the 2017 Verspieren-Haberer Grenache Rosé Rosalie.
Second wine for Christmas at my Uncles house in South Africa. Beautiful light salmon pink. Lots of layers on the nose with notes of watermelon, strawberries, and white flowers. High acidity (7/10) and light bodied. Zesty and crisp on the palate. Lovely roses, strawberries, melon and watermelon. Insanely long and lingering finish. Perfect for the hot summer day today, love what Thierry is doing in SA! Drink till 2021. (92+)

Love what Thierry is doing with this Rosé and with all the wines and barrels we tasted today at the Holden Manz Wine Estate with Wayne Buckley-Koch (Marketing Director) and Gerard Holden (Owner). This bottling is made up of 63% Grenache, 12% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Syrah, 9% Cinsault and 7% Cabernet Franc. The fruit comes from various areas in the Coastal Region, like Wellington and Stellenbosch for the Grenache, Syrah and Cinsault as well as Franschhoek Valley for both Cabernets. Gently pressed as whole bunches before settling in the steel tanks for 12 hours and being removed from the lees. Very excited to try out the 2018 if we get a chance, it is supposed to be lighter and more elegant with less Cabernet.

Château du Tertre, Red Blend – 2018
AOC Margaux – Bordeaux, France 🇫🇷
5th Growth, Grand Cru Classé en 1855
Overview
A historic Margaux estate, Château du Tertre sits on a prominent gravel “tertre” (hillock) that gives the château its name. The 2018 vintage was a warm and generous year, producing wines with depth, richness, and polished tannins. The estate’s blend for the V.18 crafted Cabernet Sauvignon 40%, Merlot 30%, Cabernet Franc 25%, and Petit Verdot 5%, delivering the quintessential Margaux elegance.
Aromas & Flavors
Blackcurrant, blackberry, and ripe plum layered with graphite, cedar, and cigar box. Hints of violets, licorice, and cocoa weave through the bouquet, adding complexity.
Mouthfeel
Elegant yet bold: medium to full-bodied with polished and structured tannins, a silky mid-palate, and a long, harmonious finish. A wine showing its prime with youthful vibrancy and well-integrated oak.
Food Pairings
Roast lamb with herbs, beef Wellington, duck breast, Truffle risotto, porcini pasta, mushroom burgers, aged Gruyère, Manchego, or Brie de Meaux.
Verdict
The 2018 vintage is a standout for Margaux, and Château du Tertre shines with a balance of power and finesse. Dark-fruited, silky, and aromatic, this wine embodies the elegance that Margaux is celebrated for, approachable now, yet cellar-worthy for another decade.
Did You Know?
Château du Tertre shares historical ties with Château Giscours (also in Margaux), once under the same ownership. Its elevated gravel terroir provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for Cabernet Sauvignon’s deep root systems.
🍷 Personal Pick Highlight: For me, the 2018 du Tertre is the sweet spot, Margaux elegance meets ripe, modern Bordeaux style, without sacrificing finesse and within a reasonable price point. Cheers! — 8 months ago

Berries with a light straw mixed in. Smooth with no bite or sour notes. Excellent with Beef Wellington. — 5 years ago
Nicely integrated tannins, still some fresh fruits left after 13+ years. Cherries, red raspberries. Peter made wines to last. — 5 years ago
Dinner at De Wijnhuis in downtown Stellenbosch. Great food and amazing wine list. Was shocked to see some older wines, very unusual in South Africa. Highly recommend.
Medium mix of ruby and garnet red. Ripe and plush nose with layers of sweet spices, black currants, cassis, plums and a touch of red earthiness. Fully integrated tannins (5.5/10) with a medium body. Good structure on the palate with some cedar, black currants, sweet tobacco and light dustiness. Great acidity with a lingering finish. Drink now. — 7 years ago
This was the last of 4 reds we had for our main course last night. A bin end from the Wine Society Dining Club won at the Xmas raffle. Certainly the best of the 4 good Full body, soft tannins, fruity great with beef wellington 😁. I decanted all 4 wines about 2.5 hours before drinking and felt it opened them all out - hope I can get more of this! I notice this app says buy at $195 and French wine is cheaper in USA than in the UK. Obvioulsy I was lucky getting this in the raffle. — 9 years ago
