Bodegas Laosa

Trasto Albarin 2016

Cut lemon, green olive brine, minor oxidative traits, dry crushed rocks; very cool bottle.

(A peace offering from an invited friend who arrived to taste a bottle of Ch. Simone rosé ('18) after being open for three days.)

Monasterio de Corias

Finca Los Frailes Mencía Blend 2012

Field blend of Albarín Negro, Mencía, Carrasquín and Verdejo Negro. Steep and slate soiled slope. Neutral barrels. Bright acidity to boost the black cherry fruit, easy tannins, and just enough wet slate rusticity. My favorite of their cuvées. — 4 years ago

If you want to test you tolerance for strange wines or you are a wine geek 🤓 this is it. Very much like an oxidized Jura wine made from the savagnin grape but this is Albarin not Albariño! Tastes like a sherry at first. Super nutty and corky but not corked! Kind of like grape cider. Bracing acidity. Drink this by itself and muse over the flavor for hours. Or pair it with stinky cheeses Goat, aged Taleggio a blue cheese etc. . This is not a wine for a dinner party with friends. I actually think cheese screws up our palate but this wine can take it! Bottle 447 of 670 made. An experience but only for the brave. Only available from Max Kogod in the US. — 2 years ago

Ok so when I look online rancid wines seem mostly known as reds this is a white but the technique might be the same.

In Spain, the only rancid wines I saw were red. One bodega had 5 gallon full glass bottles baking in the sun on the barn roof. The proprietor served the wine from a solera stack in her home kitchen. Tasted like sherry. I saw some I. Madrid wine stores.
