100% Albarin (not to be confused with Albariño), a little-known indigenous variety from Leon and Galicia, where it is also known as Branco Lexitimo. Aromatic, citrus (lemon, tangerine) and some floral and herbal notes (reminiscent of Verdejo). Crisp, fresh, saline. Amazing value — 4 years ago
Surprise! What a nice unknown wine. 50% Albarin and 50% indigenous Mencia (no stems) from JR and tasted 10 years ago wondering how it’d age. Well it aged beautifully. Nose is endless floral yet deep earthy notes, lithe body lively on palate and long finish. Yum. QPR $17 — 11 days ago
Actually red Carrasquin Mencia. Recommended by Genova at NM in Oviedo on 5/17/25, to accompany one of best meals ever — indeed good pairing except with dairy dessert. Like high altitude Pinot. — a year ago
Developing a taste for Albarín, an indigenous variety from Leon, Asturias and Galicia, where it is also known as Branco Lexítimo. From 60+ years old vines on slate, limestone and clay soils in Cangas de Narcea (Asturias). Aged in used 500 liter French oak barrels for 6 months. Notes of citrus. Very fresh, zippy acidity — 4 years ago
Simple, local Albarin (which I didn’t know was so distinctive from Albariño) by the glass at Güeyu Mar. — 10 months ago
From Grand Cata. Drank 6/10/2022. Honey flavor right away. — 4 years ago

80% Albarin and 20% Chenin aged in large neutral barrel. A taut and tangy lightning bolt of key lime and citrus pith with a saline edge. Hardly letting on its seven years old. — 3 days ago
