Winepress Vintners

Nikolaihof

Baumpresse Grüner Veltliner 2013

The 2013 Baumpresse Grüner Veltliner is absolutely brilliant, and amongst one of the finest wines I have ever had the chance to taste from Nikolaihof. It is made using a 350-year-old wooden winepress, carved from a single tree trunk, which takes a 10-hour process to slowly extract the juice. The result is a wine of sheer beauty and refinement, offering striking aromas of sliced apples, dried orange zest, honey blossoms, chamomile, dried herbs and crushed stones that all take shape. On the palate this is every bit as compelling, showing remarkable balance, with wonderful precision and clarity. It displays a beautiful textured mouthfeel, underlined by a gorgeous touch of acidity and saline streak that persists through the pretty finish. There is an alluring freshness and sense of purity that makes this extremely appealing now, however it also displays the potential to age marvelously for over a decade. — 5 years ago

Fabulous blend of Paso GSM! Has new world fruit intensity followed by eloquent backbone. Has it with a Mediterranean salad with roasted salmon! Perfecto! — 6 years ago

Animist Russian River Valley Pinot Noir

Heavier bodied for a PN. Black fruit wine. Raisin on the nose; black fruit on the front; after taste of ripen banana on the back & finish. Great wine. Wish it was less in alcohol. — 10 years ago
