Thanksgiving wine number two. A total baby, but wanted to check in on it since it’s the first vintage for merlot from the Theorem team (and I love their other wines). Toes the line between being a “cab lovers merlot” and a classic merlot. Dusty, baked mixed berry pie, high percentage dark chocolate, violets and cedar on the nose. Due to its age, oak plays a big role up front but softens toward the middle and finish. The fruit, mainly red and black, is underripe and tart...black cherries, dark plums, currant, dates and a dash of baking spices. Benefitted nicely from a decant. — 3 years ago
Light on tannins, strong on flavor. A good introductory red wine for those who aren’t used to reds. Pairs great with pasta and marinara. — 7 months ago

A great Colorado red blend. Dark red color. Nose of boxwood and cherries, somewhat light. Medium bodied. Slightly jammy, taste of berries and slight bit of spice. Finish diminishes quickly. — 2 years ago

A socially distanced night catching up with friends while enjoying some fun wines. Posting what I was able to get pics of!
VASO cellars is essentially Dana Estate’s third label. However, what makes VASO unique is that while it’s a third label, the fruit that is used is the same fruit that goes in to Dana. No young vines or anything like that here. The main difference is the way it is oak aged. This SB comes from Dana’s Hershey Vineyard on Howell Mountain.
This was one of my contributions (alongside a 2013 Theorem Voir Dire). After popping the 2012 a few months back (and loving it), I went back to the well and opened a 2013. This is 7yrs young and drinking so youthful! Overall, the similarities in 2012 and 2013 are almost identical, though I pick up more heat here (I think the ABV was slightly higher here). It reminds me of high end Bordeaux Blanc with the flair of Aesthete’s Sauv Blanc. Aromatically, it leaps from the glass with honeyed sea salt, cantaloupe, lemongrass and white peach. On the palate, it is so textured and rich, almost creamy. More peach, poached pear, lemon oil, and creamsicle. There is good acidity here and while the profile is rounded, it’s certainly not flabby. I’m going to hold my ‘15 for a while based on how these age, but they are so good, I may not be able to wait long. Best around cellar temp...don’t get it too cold or it will mute some of the flavors. Held strong for two days easily. Courtesy of my good buddy @Mike R , who introduced me to VASO a while back. — 2 years ago

Moon Mountain fruit is just so special isn’t it? A rather attractive wheat yellow with tiny little green flecks. The nose is so inviting despite being an infant. A bit of lemon and a touch of lime with most delicate flowers initially. Tropical and citrus fruits abound here. Peaches and nectarines with a dash of pineapple for good measure. Let the wine warm a bit and a bit of honeysuckle comes to the fore. This really does smell terrific.
This isn’t a frivolous, afterthoughts Sauvignon Blanc. It has real weight and substance with nice complexity. Pleasing acidity and a mix of laid back on the tongue yet still possessing that burst of excitement that keeps you coming back for more. The attack is vigorous with those yellow fruits maintaining dominance. Wet stone and fresh herbs run amok in the best way possible. An impeccably clean finish. A gorgeous wine. — 3 months ago
