Sassacaia

Tenuta San Guido

Bolgheri Sassicaia Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2013

A slightly late Thanksgiving dinner in Shanghai on Sunday evening. A full house so why not a Jerobaum of Sassacaia to celebrate with a crowd. 2013 vintage. Elegant and polished but still young, I suspect this would have improved over the years ahead. Not so deep noted as some other years- red fruits, currant, young cherries. Awesome aroma. The crowd loved it. — 3 years ago

Marchesi Antinori

Tignanello Toscana Super Tuscan Blend 2013

Possibly one of the finest wines I've tasted. Bold statement but this crushed a Sassacaia I had a week ago. Decanted about an hour and got mouthfuls of red berry, vanilla, leather, and silk. In 5 years...wow! — 7 years ago

Quilceda Creek

Washington Cabernet Sauvignon 2002

Restrained nose of Plum and Prune. Also notes of wet hot bitumen road. Latent brooding power. Experts say drinking window to 2015 but will go on well beyond that IMO. Amazing fruit strength for a cool climate area like Washington State. Full bodied with decadently rich flavours. One of the best new world Cabernets I have had. Up there with Woodlands Moss Wood Dominus Sassacaia amongst others having not tried many of the Californian Cult classics. A birthday treat. — 8 years ago

Not that Sassacaia is new world. More Cab based with Barriques in an old world country.
