Rosso del Soprano Sicilia Nerello Mascalese Blend 2002

Shockingly good. I’ve had the 2003 7-8 times in recent years and this is better than all but one of those ‘03s. More spine and length on this 2002. The 03s more fruit. In any case it’s too bad recent vintages of this are more oaky. — 3 months ago

Santa NE Sicilia IGT Nerello Blend 2004

Tasted both the 2004 & 2006 vintages. 2004 was the clear favorite. — 8 years ago

Faro Nerello Blend 1998

another long haul surprise found in the back of the fridge....cola sap tar and here and there a bit of bright cherry comes through....perhaps over the hill but only slightly and still a unique pleasure like it was 20 years ago at the babbo bar... — 7 months ago

Rosso del Soprano

Elegant, silky structure. Tobacco leaves, leather, red fruits, a bit of “fumé”. Pure pleasure — 4 years ago

Palari Faro Nerello Blend

WOTN! Blend of several indigenous Sicilian grapes (50% Nerello Mascalese, 20% Nerello Cappucio, 20% Nocera, 10% other indigenous varietals) from vineyards right off the Straights of Messina. Not an Etna wine, but embraces if not surpasses the Burgundian qualities many high end Sicilian wines approach. Tremendous acid balance and tannin integration that can only come from precise wine making. Very deep but funky mushroom, red fruit, forest floor, and slightly brett nose. On the palate tremendous fruit quality tastes of red berries, peach, and floral notes end up giving way to herbaceous and leather undertones. Again, thanks @Kyle Harvey for lugging this across the world for the summit! — 4 years ago
