100% Viura from 50-60 years old vines from a historic estate in Baños de Rioja which once belonged to Eugenia de Montijo, Napoleon III’s wife (hence its name). Since 2017 it has been recognized as Viñedo Singular (Rioja’s equivalent to grand cru). Fermented in concrete (50%) and oak barrels (50%). Aged in oak for 10 months followed by another 10 months in concrete. Delicate nose with aromas of beeswax, chamomile, fennel and floral notes. Citrus flavors (lemon), chamomile. Quite fresh. Possible at first taste to confuse for a medium-high quality Burgundy. Some nice fresh apple notes, some honeysuckle, and purely delicious. I think this wine might not travel well; we drank and purchased this bottle at the winery. It's really good. — 6 years ago
