Phipps NBC Red Star is a traditional recipe that dates back to the 1950s. A favourite of the Cobbler industry that had its heart in Northampton and Northamptonshire, it was drunk county wide after a day making shoes.
A good mile, malty ale, with a nice refreshing taste that gives a little nuttyness and hints of caramel. 3.8ABV, ideal for a session ale. — 3 years ago
Oooh, I love this. It pours beautifully black and thickly with a dense head. Aromas of coffee and chocolate and a smooth taste of caramel, coffee, chocolate and hints of biscuit and hazelnut.
A super ale. One for cold winter days and autumn evenings, as much as a tranquil summer afternoon or like today, a bright spring day.

🔥🔥🔥🔥, paired with roasted salmon filet and it was awesome. The acidity & minerality were a perfect compliment to the fish — 5 years ago
Heck of a hosting by @Weston Eidson last night for the City Club wine group. All wines were tasted blind.
Cerebral and spectacular. Best Bordeaux I’ve had. A stunning showing at 19yrs young. I called this early 2000s Bordeaux but actually thought it was Right Bank...there is a gorgeous medley of soft and ripe dark blue and black fruit here. Not juicy, but more floral and expressive. Palate was lifted with fantastic structure and softened tannins (thanks to 4hrs in the decanter). Pipe tobacco but hardly any herbal or leather notes. The softness of this wine is what made it a star. Flavor without being dense. Co WOTN. — 7 years ago

Château Latour is an iconic estate in the Pauillac commune on the left bank of Bordeaux, achieving coveted ‘First Growth’ status in the 1855 Bordeaux Classification.
The estate has roots dating back to the 14th century and derives its name ‘La Tour’ from a fortress tower built during the Hundred Years’ War, which no longer exists but is prominently featured on the label in recognition of its history.
We weren’t sure what to expect, as many have predicted these 1983s are likely past their prime, but this wine was a masterpiece. 🤩
It was medium garnet in color with expressive notes of cedar box, cigar, clove, peat, leather, forest floor, fig, prune, dried black cherry, plum, cassis, blackberry compote, cardamom, cinnamon, star anise, dried violet, potpourri, kalamata olive, pencil shavings, graphite, & bacon fat.
It had the most velvety, fine-grained tannins that washed across the palate with ease, with a gentle but notable acidity that maintained lift and balance. It was concentrated, complex, and had a long, elegant finish. — a year ago

Beautiful Malbec from @Brad Saarloos and @Greg Saarloos a Waylan…..it’s fresh, bright and the fruit sings — 5 years ago
Gilt gold and star bright crown of egg foam white. Soft grapefruit, tangerine, orange, and lemon twist bursts, candied ginger and lemon merengue nose commotion. Ripe lemon, ripe lime, pink grapefruit, raspberry ketones, beeswax, lemon ice, frozen jalepeno, and clean berry taste, with lemongrass presiding. #freestatebrewing #freestate #lfk #lawrencekansas #ipa #yakimaniac #indiapaleale #ale #beer #bier #biere #birra #hops — 7 years ago
My favorite varietally true expression of Cabernet Sauvignon from Happy Canyon - Santa Ynez Valley. Very nicely balanced acidity and ripeness not overdone. Very expressive dark fruit and some woody herbs. Decanted and consumed hours later. Fine grained tannin and restrained more so than most common SYV producers. This wine stands apart as a very balanced Cab without being “big” yet still offering plentiful fruit and beautiful bouquet. — 7 years ago
Look: purple-red hues, mild intensity, medium viscosity
Smell: strawberries, vanilla, star anise, minimal alcohol
Taste: blackberries, oak, red cherries, mild vanilla, mild tannins, long finish — 7 years ago
W. V. Bubbles from a famed vineyard and phenomenal human, Tom Sivili. Rising star no doubt. Get your hands on this before it goes the way of Ultramarine. And if you have more of the 2019 DM me now. — 2 years ago
Riesling + chambo + traminette = wow! Such a great integration of traminette, offering up its explosion of flowers on the nose without the bathroom-potpourri taste. Instead the chambo and riesling smack you with a big ol’ ripe red sour cherry. So so fun, and interesting. — 2 years ago
Really good !!! Much more serious Han I was expecting. — 3 years ago

A continuation of some 1981’s that I’ve been opening to celebrate my 40th and this might be one of the biggest revelations yet. Over the last 20 years of my education, I’ve had the honor of being humbled countless times by wines, both good and not so good. However, every now and again, a wine comes along that challenges basic conventions and broadens my perspective. This was such a wine. Popped and poured; served alongside an assortment of grilled fare. The cork was about as healthy I’ve seen from a wine at 40 years. It came out mostly intact save for a small piece that was easy to remove but it served as a reminder that I ought to spend the money on a Durand. The color is deep garnet with some ever so slight browning at the edge of the rim. There is some fine sediment towards the bottom of the bottle but it’s otherwise quite clear. The nose was immediately engaging and full of interest. Predominate notes of old leather, dark cherry, mushrooms, black pepper, tobacco, and sweet baking spices. On the palate, the wine was rich, redolent. A mix of dark, mostly desiccated fruit, pipe tobacco, and baking spices. The real star however was the structure. Everything was still in its right place. Tannins were noticeable though clearly softened with age and very well integrated at this point. The acid provided all the necessary lift and a perfect zip to the finish. A wine of supreme balance. The four of us who shared this bottle looked at each other in wonder and amazement. A truly special wine that has years of life ahead. I have little doubt that it will still be handsome at 50. — 5 years ago

This is the La Encantada Vineyard Pinot and might be one of the best from this producer. Nice fruit forward of black cherry, cola, star anise and cracked pepper. Love the earthy and floral nose of this single-vineyard wine. Big fan of this. Not so much on the other vineyards. — 8 months ago
