A wine that matches its wonderful story of Nebbiolo vines lost and found far to the north of its famous Piemontese cousins. Look online for stories - Sedimentary Wines has got a great article. This is 10-yr old Nebbiolo (85%) and the taste is familiar but wild...I absolutely loved this wine geek wine and will do my best to seek it out in the future. Thanks again to the merchant at The Wine Bottega in North Boston who enthused about this wine (and convinced me to shell out a wad of dough to try it). — 8 years ago

A beautiful label that I remembered from an article in a wine mag that I had just read. Picked it up at Foodland in Asoke, Bangkok for a very reasonable price. This was all about ripe fruit, big bunches of it, without a lot of tannin. I think it would have been a bit cloying on its own, but with pork chops and grilled sweet potato it tasted excellent! Could see this being a crowd pleasing pool party wine. — 8 years ago

Wine #4 of our Austrian and Südtirol wine (and skiing) adventure. This wine is a W-O-W knockout! The owner of the wine shop in Westend, Munich really knew his stuff. Nose immediately made my wife say "whoa!" - clear aged riesling nose of candied pear and pineapple, honysuckle flowers and hint of cloves. Golden yellow, dry as dry but with zingy acidity that just explodes in the mouth. I love this wine. — 8 years ago

Bright, racy with good fruit and easy to drink - both my sister and I really enjoyed it. Recommended by the very helpful folks at The Wine Bottega on Hanover Street in Boston's North End. This is a summer wine and I'd say a crowd-pleasing party wine as well. — 8 years ago

So different and so good. 12 yo South Australian Riesling. Golden yellow but no old Riesling honey...more like kerosene and pear. It just doesn't finish. Thanks to Wine House Melbourne for the great recommendation ("something like Grosset Polish Hill but that I can't find outside Oz.") — 8 years ago

Gorgeous label and a GG, how could I go wrong? This was our 6th wine during our Germany/Austria/Italy wine and skiing tour. Nose was delicious green melon and lime, relatively weighty in the mouth and rich. But what was missing was the acidity I'd expect. As a result, while the wine had no big faults it certainly wasn't GG wow. The Wagner Stempel riesling we had earlier kicked its butt. — 8 years ago

Aalto PS 2014 RdD Spain - super dense, plush huckleberry pie with a really nice cedar finish and with smoooth tannins. Thanks to Jeremy at Hedonism for the suggestion. Love it! — 8 years ago

We've been very happy with the Yali range of wines on a quality/price basis, especially their whites. But I can't say I found this 'limited edition' cab sauv very enjoyable. The fruit on the nose and the palate seemed 'stewed' and even a bit sour like rhubarb. Perhaps not a great year weather-wise? — 8 years ago

Our Austrian and Südtirol wine (and skiing) adventure continued with our first taste of Blaufränkrisch. So...it's a pizza wine...fruits of the forest blackberry fruit, sharp acidity, no tannins, little obvious oak. Pleasant enough when you consider the price (I think around 10 Euro) but nothing fancy. — 8 years ago
