7.5

Vigna Carzello Nebbiolo D'Alba 2009. Won a Concorso Award in 2012. Not exactly sure why, unless it was the best Nebbiolo D'Alba in its price range that year. I found it thin and tangy, with no depth, and no discernible fruits. I suppose I shouldn't compare it to the sublime Sangiovese Chianti Classico Riservas. — 10 years ago

Caparzo Rosso di Montalcino 2010. Not as nuanced as some others, but a rich red that pairs well with steak drizzled with aged balsamic vinegar. Yum. — 10 years ago

8.6

Masi Masianco 2012. Pinot Grigio and Verduzzo blend. A good Italian white. Perhaps a tad sweeter than a Soave, but, as usual, all non-dessert or sparkling whites taste the same to me. — 10 years ago

Edoardo Sobrino 2007 Barolo. Took a while to open up, then tasted of raisins, dark cherry, and a hint of moist tobacco. Not a great deal of depth, but went well with Steak Florentine. — 10 years ago

Casa Bottega Fragolino Rosso. Strawberry strong notes, not terribly sweet, lightly effervescent. What Lambrusco should taste like. Not exported. Down to my last couple of bottles :-( — 10 years ago

Agricultori del Geografico Brunello di Montalcino 2005. Thought it would taste better as a 10 year old, but no real depth. A bit tobacco, some black cherry. I've had better. — 10 years ago

Prunotto Barbaresco 2009. Improved a after being opened (and recorked) for a week, but still a solid "meh". — 10 years ago
