This was great, I need to try it again if I want to take good notes. — 8 years ago
Deep red, burgundy color. Smells of vanilla, honeydew, pineapple, freshly cut strawberries, and wet ash. Medium to heavy body and tannin structure, low acidity. Not too bold, the flavor is like black raspberry compote but not too sweet, moves to a lingering sour taste on the roof of the mouth and the back of the tongue. Ends with mild notes of black pepper.
Edit: Three weeks after the above tasting and immediately being re-corked and refrigerated I feel like it has hit a really nice level of aeration. I wish I knew how to translate that into decanting & rest time.
I also didn't mention previously there is a nice oak flavor which is a bit blunt when first opened and which develops into a nice still present but more subtle flavor and a stronger vanilla flavor. — 8 years ago
This is delicious, first time trying Carignan at Tannins & Hope speakeasy. — 7 years ago
Light pink/orange color. Super acidic sour smell like quinine. Less than a light body, disguised with bubbles. Stings the lips, tastes just tart in a nondescript way. Definitely added sugar to taste which is not doing "extra dry" any favors. Leaves a weird filmy feeling in the mouth and a strangely meaty aftertaste which lingers for quite a while. — 8 years ago
It's a deep but translucent ruby, maybe like a pinot noir. The first things I'm smelling are sour green apples, and sickly sweet berries. There's also an undertone of sour cream. Very light body, medium acidity, and it feels high in tannin. The flavor is bubblegum, Concord grape juice, candy Bananas. There's an instant sweet sour zip up the tongue, a lingering sweetness, maybe an oily feeling over the tongue, and an even longer lingering but not too sweet flavor of strawberry and blackberry. The taste of alcohol is quite present. — 8 years ago
Smells faintly fruity, and also sour and acidic. Very heavy bodied, sweet but not too sweet. Alcoholic enough that you can feel a faint stinging throughout your mouth. Transitions quickly from sweet, to sour, to a zing in the back of your mouth. It feels very sugary but it's dry enough that I still find it pleasant. I'm reminded of honey and tropical fruit. — 8 years ago
Smells of fresh honey crisp apples, pears, and sour cream. Light body with mild acidity medium dry. Tastes on the sour side, and the alcohol definitely has a presence but isn't overwhelming. The finish is just a slight extension of the sour flavor that moves from sharp to mild over the course of around 30 seconds, there's no real lingering flavor. Best with some dish that could carry it's own weight. I opened this bottle around two weeks ago and it tastes the same as the first day. Thanks — 8 years ago
