Brilliant ruby color with a wide orange rust band as it turns toward the rim with a transparent edge. The nose gives off attractive earthiness, damp garage, shoe cabinet with hints of smoked oak and leather. The palate is full bodied with a silky texture. There are still substantial hints of blackberry albeit, flavors of seared meat, leather, graphite, vanilla. This can still hold for another year before it peaks, but to let this evolve in the glass is just a marvel. Finishes long and smoky with bittersweet tannins. Lovely. This is a classic. Drink now with a 30-minute decant or from 2018 to 2038.
Light ruby/rust color with a nose of leather, dried herbs, and scorched St. Emilion earth. The palate has a light-to-medium body and has exhausted most of its fruit featuring predominantly leathery, earthy, vegetal notes of asparagus, and herbal hints of rosemary, sage, and truffle. Finishes long, silky and sublimely elegant with traces of red licorice. Drink now!
