Last Friday was our normal 4th Friday happy hour at the storage facility, but since this month had 5 Fridays, why not keep the party going?!

A Cakebread project. One of those wines I've seen around but never tried. Poured super dark in the glass...figured it to be Mountain fruit or Syrah. The nose mirrors those places with dark fruit and powerful tannins, but the palate was more elegant than expected. More red fruit and spice on the palate. It started strong but finished with a very soft and graceful blackberry pie and plum finish.

This wine has evolved a little since I last enjoyed it in January. This was closer to the experience shared with Ms. Cakebread a year ago, but the wine has definitely evolved for the good. This was double decanted this time and this is now about 4 hours after that double decant. The nose of this is youthful blackberry fruit with sweet tobacco. This wine is a blackberry scone bomb up front. Youthful and full bodied extraction. Lots of acidity in the front and middle. This one developed more of a herb-rubbed meat and clove quality to it in the middle. Toasted oak tannin and pie spice finish. Still quite a bit of tannin going on here, but between the herbal side of things that is starting to also come out and the toasty tannin, this wine is really starting to develop nicely.
