Black raspberries, sweet violets, tobacco and hints of licorice form a dazzling bouquet on the 2016 Valpolicella Superiore Ripassa. This is silky-smooth with a dark fruit persona that’s beautifully lifted by salty acids and minerals, which create a juicy expression. It’s persistent and balanced, leaving the palate aching for more, as hints of nuanced tannins and tart wild berries create a slightly grippy finale. What a beautiful wine and - dare I use the term? - “Baby Amarone.” (Eric Guido, Vinous, February 2021)

After pressing dried grapes from making Amarone, Valpolicella wine is passed over the still warm skins of Amarone for 2nd alcoholic fermentation, increasing the alcoholic content and color. Deep Ruby with aromas of sweet dried berry fruits and pepper spice. On the palate ripe blackberry, currants and sweet cherry with complex spice. Well balanced with acidity and alcohol, full-body with soft tannins on lingering finish. Nice value. Good now!

Vday treat with a nose of raisins, prunes, old leather and dried tabacco. On the palate more dried fruit continues with lighter notes of violet that give way to earthly mushroom. Serious tannin grip add to the hefty mouthfeel.

Lucious, rich without a hint of jasmine so, polished tannins and ripe black fruit. Lively example of the ripasso style. Elegant and poised

Deep ruby in color with a purplish rim.

Fruity nose of blueberries, cherries, licorice, oak, vanilla, wildflowers, cloves, herbs, spices, dark coffee, pencil lead, earth, vegetables and black pepper.

Medium plus in body and smooth, with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, sweet strawberries, raspberries, vanilla, licorice, oak, bitter herbs, vegetables, pencil lead, earth and black pepper.

Medium plus in finish with round tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a great Ripasso from Veneto, Italy. Well balanced and enjoyable by itself or with food. Showing nice complexity and a great, smooth mouthfeel.

A good sipping wine and better after 30 minutes of airtime. A very solid option for an Italian meal.

I paired it with a charcuterie board of meats, cheeses and interesting pickled vegetables.

14% alcohol by volume.

88 points.

Beautiful deep purple color with a nice, translucent red edge at the glass.

Nose has plum, cedar, violets, cedar, moist earth and fresh black pepper.

Palate has plum, black cherry, bitter dark chocolate, over-ripe strawberry and faint oak.

This wine is very plumy, and just delicious. 2021-23+ for future bottles, likely in a very nice place in 8-10 years past vintage. QPR delivered at our purchase price of $24!

Rich, full bodied. Pleasant surprise for me since it was a surprise gift from a company gift exchange at our Christmas Party.

Herbacious but delicious. Almost Amarone'ish. Derish.
