My last YY 2015 Pinot Noir. A good balance between red fruits and savouriness and probably drinking at its peak. I have always loved YY Pinot Noir Noir back when it was undoubtedly the best Pinot Noir in Australia in the mid 1980’s made by the legendary Dr Bailey Carrodus. A lot more competition for that mantle these days but Yarra Yering is still kicking major goals as recently as 2 weeks ago winning a Platinum award and 97 points for their 2022 Pinot Noir at the Decanter World Wine Awards in London. The following night aromatic red florals.

Back in the 1980’s Yarra Yering under the stewardship of Dr Bailey Carrodus made probably the best Pinot Noir in Australia. Bailey has passed on and YY now in the very capable hands of Sarah Crowe, a former wine maker of the year in Australia. To be honest I was expecting more from this Pinot. Red fruited (red cherry) nose with sappiness and root vegetable nuances. Good concentration but in need of more complexity and interest. Perhaps time in cellar will bring this. 97 points from James Halliday so he was impressed. YY are currently selling this as an aged release on their website for $165 which is too expensive. I paid $90 in 2016.
