The Caley is Yalumba’s flagship and is a blend of minty Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon and the fleshy berry fruit of Barossa Shiraz. This is such a baby - a case of infanticide - will live for decades. Very closed at this point with enormous potential. No doubt a great wine in the making but too expensive IMO. At the Annual Yalumba tasting at the Downs Club.

At the Yalumba tasting. This is the new cuvée and very ambitiously priced I might say at $350. It is obviously a very good wine with soaring aromatics. Very primary blue and purple fruits with a combination of both Coonawarra and Barossa Cabernet together with Barossa Shiraz - naturally from all of the best blocks Yalumba could access. Apparently this fruit previously went into The Reserve. Perfectly balanced such that you could happily drink The Caley now but like all great wines will easily cellar for a couple of decades. Yalumba have obviously thought that if Grange and H of G can charge $800+ then why not have a Super Cuvée at $350? You be the judge.
