No one would ever suspect that the clear light ruby '03 Wyncroft Pinot Noir 'Avonlea Vineyard' came from the Lake Michigan Shore in SW Michigan. In a blind tasting, everyone would swear it was from Burgundy. A complex nose of sweet black cherry, plum, mint and earthy barnyard morphed from the glass. Medium-bodied with tart acidity and hints of floral and spice in the long-lasting aftertaste. A most serious wine from an unexpected region.
