Of the three wines in the Keller Kabi-kiste, this was my least favourite which is saying something. The Keller family really knocked it out of the park with the 2021 Kabinett’s! This was pure, fruity, and playful, but perhaps a little closed at this early stage. It’s still a stunning and classic Kabinett mind you. Just needed air (and heaps of it!) to blow off some initial sulphides revealing a mix of fruits, flowers, and spice. Expectedly slatey, but not quite as intense as the Alte Reben. On that note, this is “Alte Reben” by most conventions, coming from 60-year old vines, but for the sake of differentiation with the 120-year old vines, this was labelled as the young vine version. Crazy!
