Age that Fruh! At 10 this is really coming into its own Gorgeous nose of wet earth, spice and desiccated leaves and tree bark. An interesting citrus note as well. So expressive. Just a stunning nose. The fierce tannins of this have calmed down and it’s an ultra silky and has superb concentration and awesome mid season cherry fruit and some blackberry overtones. Sweet tannins and exceptional length. Air is always this wine’s friend.

Wow what a nose. Huge spice and violets and a feral quality. Glorious and expressive. Stunning. 9.6 nose. Smells ready to go which is in line with 2017 Walter. Also some dead leaves and tree bark. Palate is ripe, supple and juicy with great energy and freshness. Delicate yet intensely flavorful. So succulent. Red cherries galore and some cassis as well. Drink now with aplomb

Wow what a nose. Stunning aromas that are so deep with the classic violets and spice. Gorgeous aromas and framed by the classic Walter sweet wood. Insane nose. Tree bark. Decadent. So juicy and sweet. Super concentrated and sapid but also elegant and haunting. Ethereal. Inner mouth aromas. Stunning and fresh. Opulent. Controlled opulence.

Nose has some sweet wood, mint, wild berries and wild black cherry and loads of violets. Huge minerals and earthy underbrush. Gorgeous aromas that need an hour for the wood to integrate more. Tree bark. Wood shavings and a hint of bitter citrus rind round out the aromas. Palate is just awesome. So supple and silky. Amazing balance and purity. Super fresh and dense. What a wine. This is so seamless and elegant. Black and red cherries abound. So sweet and so concentrated. Just spectacular.

Sweetens up more with air and gets more energetic and dynamic. Amazing freshness. So elegant. Leaves you thinking. 9.6 to 9.7. Just stunning. Beyond stunning. I need to email Christoph!

This is a specialty here and wow this is really something. Such a glorious and nuanced nose of spice, tree bark, glorious dark black cherries, spicey oak and wonderful violets. It’s super clean, nuanced and multilayered. Great. Palate is fresh, energetic and has superb purity and freshness. Tangy red cherries on the palate, a bit of oak and as always this needs mega air but it’s all there as it always is. Huge structure on this. Elegant and so bright. Awesome length. Needs 5 years.

Day 2 update : 9.4 to 9.6 overnight. Palate is so fresh and energetic. Unreal freshness and purity. Beautiful sweet, silky and cherry fruit. Long, tangy and fresh. Haunting and deep. Wow. Amazing on day 2.

Wow this has gotten glorious and turned the corner. Deep ripe mid to late season cherries. Spice. Violets, raspberry cake. The nose is elite and expressive. Wow. Citrus as well. More like tangelo zest. Acid is fierce as this is 2010 and this is amazingly fresh and has lovely sweetness and grip. Perfect balance and terrific purity. Awesome. This is really showing well. This has a decade to go. Just wonderful.

Young but stunning. Nose is slightly woody (still!) with unreal deep black cherry fruit and mega violets. Glorious spice and minerals. Charcoal, char, and also some cocoa. The wood is sweet and complementary. But man it takes years to shed. Palate has much less if any wood and lovely sweetness, freshness and also almost a softened. Explosive fruit, our toy and density, but elegant and serene. So long and delicate but really needs 5 years.

Been waiting on this wine forever. And wow does it not disappoint. Just a stunning stunning nose of spice, violets, some discreet oak, bittersweet cocoa, complex mid season cherries, cherry flower, tree bark and it comes across as an intense perfume. Really really fragrant. So deep and the harder one sniffs the more it penetrates your deep nasal cavity without it diffusing. What a nose. So subtle and nuanced and so pretty. 9.5 nose. Just superb. Some hoisin sauce and soy as well. What a wine. What a palate. Velvet. First word that comes to mind. Textures. So juicy and velvety. What a contrast. Some discreet wood as well that only adds to the allure. The fruit is also sweet and the palate is ultra refined. 15 is magic at Walter. Incredible freshness and depth and remains lighter in body but as intense as the spat J Hundsruck which this can be compared to. Such beautiful cherry skin fruit on the sappy finish. This wine is a delicacy and will only get more delicate as time goes on. What a satin/velvet like texture. Concentrated and such urgent sweet fruit. Just a stunning wine that has decades left but is a youthful treat today. Brilliant!

Gorgeous nose. I adore Frühburgunder. Adore it. Unreal classic intense Früh spice. Just penetrating your nose like nothing else. Violets and ripe mid season cherries. Wow. Dead decaying leaves that smell so good. Best decayed leaves you’ll ever smell. I have also smelled many decaying leaves in my lifetime. Amazing nose. Just sick. Palate is ripe and rounder the the Spätburgunder “J” with exquisite fruit and powerful concentration. Huge tiny berry fruit intensity and so so detailed and nimble. Ripe and stoney tannins and unreal persistence. Outrageous and most people would say closed. But it’s all there. My god this is insane. Fresh and so intense. The spice on the nose is at Dune levels after 10 minutes. Perfume of the gods. Amazing inner mouth florals and such painfully intense sweetness. Young and raw but my god there is so much material here and the wine does not quit on the finish. This is a 20 year Frühburgunder.

After air. Wow. Epic spice bomb of the gods nose. Just pure perfume now. Palate is getting melty and more opulent. The precision is unreal on this but still after 25 minutes this seems like it will need 2 hours to open up. I’ll be back.
