1999 Vina El Pison Rioja. Drank after the ‘85 Lopez de Heredia for A&S’ Anniversary lunch at Coq SF. Didn’t decant very long, but delicious. Much more fruit, tannin, and structure than the Heredia, since much younger. Delicious, but different.

Burgundy meets Rioja! Amazing Tempranillo showing very well at 17 years of age. Menthol, eucalyptus, dark red berries, in an elegant and Burgundian package with excellent acidity that still has plenty of life left. El Pison is the top, single vineyard wine from Artadi.

Incredible dark fruit, minerals, and a menthol accent, and still youthful with vibrant acidity and ample velvet tannin come together in a stunning blend of grace and power that begs for serene contemplation.
