92% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc. “V” is the premium Cuvée from the winery. Dusty plum and black currant notes with a hint of menthol. A touch of leather on the nose and a gamey note. Barb thought it smelt like a woolly jumper. I like it when people who don’t write tasting notes but have a good sense of smell come up with a new aromatic descriptor. Bought this at the winery in 2012 in Stellenbosch when we had a structured tasting. A great district for Cabernet where we had excellent examples from Ernie Els and Rustenberg amongst others - all recorded here on Delectable. Owned at the time by mining giant, Anglo-American. Possibly still is - I didn’t check. We see very little South African wine in Australia. One of the 1001 Wines.

Big classic Cabernet Sauvignon. Pencil shavings and black fruit on the nose. Needs to open up, but when it is, it's fantastic. Rich, long finish and balanced beautifully
