American Monastrell
This is a unique opportunity to try this Monastrell from New Mexico (grapes are from Paso).
Showing red fruits with light oak, spices, earth, bitter herbs and peppercorn.
Medium bodied with medium plus acidity. Spicy and interesting.
Dry on the palate with a tangy finish of pomegranates and peppercorn.
Easy drinking, good by itself and better with food. Good right out of the bottle, and better as it opens up.
I gave it a light chill and had it on the lake.
A blend of mostly Monastrell grapes from Paso Robles, with a touch of Grenache grapes from Spain.
13.9% alcohol by volume.
88 points.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim, and medium intensity.
Nose of red currants, plums, cherries, light wood, spices, light vanilla, tobacco, dark coffee, metals and black pepper.
Medium plus in body with medium acidity and long legs.
Dry on the palate with cherries, sweet strawberries, currants, plums, licorice, oak, earth, light vegetables, tobacco leaf, spices, graphite, bitter herbs and black pepper.
Medium finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.
This is a nice wine from New Mexico. Probably my first red from New Mexico, although the grapes are not from there.
A nice everyday wine and easy drinking. Nicely balanced and good by itself or with food.
Tastes like a Spanish Monastrell, and reminds me of Juan Gil a little.
I paired it with cheeses and dried meats.
A blend of 94% Monastrell and 6% Grenache. Monastrell grapes come from Paso Robles and Grenache grapes come from Spain.
