It's time for some Merlot on this #MerlotThursday. Here's a nice one from Napa Valley.

Ruby in color with a wide reddish/ brick rim.

Fruity nose of red cherries, oak, earth, strawberries, red currants, spices, peppercorn, tobacco, alcohol, herbs, light vegetables and pencil lead.

Medium plus in body with medium acidity.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, red currants, oak, tobacco, vegetables, earth, coffee and peppercorn.

Medium length on the finish with fine grained tannins and tangy raspberries.

This is a very tasty Merlot from Napa Valley. This 9 year old is tangy and spicy. Showing nice complexity with a soft mouthfeel.

Not from the best vintage, but good by itself or with food. A nice wine at this point. Thank you Wendy for sharing this with me.

Might be a little expensive, but you have to pay for the name (from the house of Silver Oak).

I had it blind (after 30 minutes of airtime) and it did not feel like a Merlot at all. I actually did not like it. After three hours of airtime, it opened up and showed the complexity. After 5 hours in the decanter, it becomes spicy and very tangy.

I paired it with grilled chicken and veggies.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

91 points.

$60.

Pretty good stuff from last night. Drinking the cellar during the COVID-19 virus.

Ok but def not worth the price. This is what I'd imagine they were talking about in the movie Sideways. An overpriced average soft fruity merlot.

Dark cherries, blueberries, and plums give way to basil, brambles, sun-dried tomatoes, and soft leather on the nose. Plums and dark chocolate coat the palate, leaning out to sweet leather, black olives, fresh dark currants, and finishing oily. Intriguing salinity throughout - though lacking a lot of tannic structure, probably better with some red meat.
