Tussock Jumper Shiraz Grenache Viognier 2016, South Africa

Ruby in color with a wide reddish rim.

Fruity nose with blueberries, strawberries, red currants, plums, light oak, spices, light vanilla, earth, licorice, graphite, black pepper, light vegetables and dark coffee.

Medium-bodied with medium acidity and long legs.

Dry on the palate with plums, cherries, strawberries, currants, wood, licorice, spices, pencil lead, black pepper, leather and earth.

Short finish with fine tannins and tangy cranberries.

This is a simple Shiraz from South Africa. Tangy, easy drinking and better with food. Has high alcohol, but not noticeable. Feels like a light, fruity Côte du Rhône red.

Better after an hour of opening up in a decanter. Good by itself and better with food.

I paired it with cheeses, crackers and almonds.

A blend of 95% Shiraz, 3% Grenache and 2% Viognier. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.

14.5% alcohol by volume.

85 points.
