From my father’s cellar, we gave half the bottle around an hour decant to warm up. The Tokara Red is now known as the Tokara Director’s Reserve since 2006. The color is dark opaque ruby red and is not cloudy. Within the nose there are quite a few interesting notes. Lots of green pepper with hints of peppercorn, straw or dry hay and dust or chalk. On the palate there are only two things I can distinguish, that of bell peppers and earthy dustiness. There are moderate tannins with a low to moderate body. The wine is not dry but just very earthy. Overall a great wine that I am surprised it still has as much power as it still has. I would guess that the best time to enjoy this wine would be within the next two years, probably could go a little longer but I would be happy with two more.

Mostly Merlot with some Cabernet and Petit Verdot. Doesn't seem like it was as hot in the a Southern Hemisphere that vintage. Bought this on release.
