Tokara
Cabernet Sauvignon
The Western Cape adventure begins with dinner at our hotel after a long day of travel.
This is the entry level - everyday Cabernet for Tokara. It’s made to drink young. Tastes like a cooler climate Cabernet. Meaning, it’s not hot like Napa but, certainly warm enough to ripen Cabernet. Less intense heat with cooler nights and likely a longer fruit hang time.
The nose reveals slightly stewed; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum skin, blue fruits, black raspberries and strawberries. Dark fruit liqueur notes, very dark, rich soil, black cherry licorice/cola, granitic minerals, steeped, black fruit tea, alluvial soils, saddle-wood with dark red, purple & blue withering florals.
The body is full, lush and heavy on the palate. Soft, understated, round, velvety tannins. The structure, tension & length are big with a decent balance of fruit and earth. Stewed; blackberries, dark cherries, black plum skin, blue fruits, black raspberries and strawberries. Dark fruit liqueur notes, very dark, rich soil, leather, tobacco, good presence of wood shavings, some graphite, black cherry licorice/cola, granitic minerals, steeped, black fruit tea, alluvial & dry top soils with dark red, purple & blue withering florals. The acidity is round and nicely executed. The finish is big, rich, lush, elegant, balanced and persistent for minutes.
Photos of; the hotel restaurant and lobby, club sandwich and chicken curry.
