Dark cherry, stringent, hints of barnyard, rust and earth, complex Sangiovese…..yum! What else can I say. Assisi. What a wonderful place to visit. We walked up to the castle one day and discovered Aperol Spritz on a hot day. The next day we walked down the hill to this wonderful family winery Tili where we discovered this wine.

A house favorite, even when I leave the house. The fruit is fresh and vibrant, tannins are fully integrated, and enough acid punch left to foil well with Osso Bucco. Likely a one-hit wonder from this relatively unknown producer in Umbria.

Something of a Meyer house wine, even when I’m out of the house, as my wine buds will attest. Super elegant and delicious, still so much fruit despite its age.

Stable floor on the nose- very strong out of the bottle but subsided and blends into background eventually. Pepper, small sour cherries that are not quite ripe gives it a little fruitiness but a strong tartness. And astringent Tannins make this last in the mouth long after the sip.

Gotta be one of the greatest Italian wines that no one has ever heard of.

Out of nowhere, and a generous gift. Pretty amazing. Don't know much about it but seriously polished, fine, fresh and aromatic. Roses and red fruits. Fine integrated tannin, and chuggable. No sediment and artificial cork - assuming aging and rebottling at the winery.

I’m not sure why this producer isn’t seen more in the US. This 100% Sangiovese is world-class (and maybe the best in Umbria) and at 20 years has yet to peak. Tannins are fine but still have grip. Deep red tart cherry fruit feathered with aromatic tobacco and roasting herbs. Finishes long and mouth puckering. Fantastico!
